RTL Z
RTL Z is the daily news broadcast on RTL 7. Producer of the program is RTL Nederland. The program was launched on 6 June 2001. From August 20th in 2001 till December 2nd in 2002 the program was broadcasted directly from the Amsterdam Stock Exchange. When trading was taken off the floor the editorial staff and presenters moved back to Hilversum. However, a switch is still made every broadcast to the market presenter in the studio in Amsterdam. Right from the start both media have been using the knowledge and the financial information of vwd group.

Concept
vwd group and RTLZ cooperated from the start to develop a format that would make the first financial television channel in the Netherlands to be successful. vwd group already had experience with publication of financial information on television. vwd group’s belgian division makes several publications for television for Kanaal Z. Simultaneous to the development for television the development for the new website was started. RTLZ wanted to launch a qualitative and good-looking website that meets all requirements of today’s investing audience.

Solution
A wide variety of information is supplied to RTLZ, news, share prices of Euronext and the US. This had to be visualized in charts as well and had to be applicable to internet and television. After consultation between the technical departments of vwd group and RTLZ the conclusion was made that the information on behalf of the website had to become accessible through a database replication. And the well-known Tickertape on RTLZ had to be send through XML to the broadcasting location in Luxemburg. For it’s editorial system and presenters RTLZ needed real-time share prices as well. A solution was found for that as well so the presenters always have access to the most current information

Implementation of the solution
After all meetings concerning the way of presentation/distribution had taken place, the implementation of the components was started.
Needless to say that after the final decision was made the information had to be delivered immediately. That is when it becomes apparent that when you are well prepared the actual implementation can be done fast and good. Well within the set deadline the financial information for the website as well as the television was implemented. To full satisfactory the Tickertape is still running during the broadcast.

Future
During the years small and sometimes large adjustments have taken place in the content or in the method of supply. What has never changed is the supplier of the information. For RTLZ the most significant benefit is that the lines of communication with vwd group are short and that vwd group can supply all information via tailor-made solutions. Because of the extensive experience and large quantity of information vwd group has become the one-stop-shopping-point for financial information.
